How many children must be in need in order to make a cause worthy of attention? If the child is a member of your family, the answer is One. Victims of orphan diseases like Protein-Losing Enteropathy, PLE, are few in number. They rarely get attention from large funding sources that are looking for major impact. Parents of children with these rare deadly diseases are often fighting their life and death battles alone.
On July 7, 1996 Colin William Colson was born with a complex heart defect. He bravely endured five surgeries in his first two years of life. Soon thereafter, he was stricken with PLE. He died on October 19, 1998. Following his death, Colin's family and friends decided they would not let the parents of these beautiful children who have been afflicted fight alone any more.
The Children's Hearts Fund is a restricted gift fund within the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation. Our Mission is to fund research into the cause/cure of complications following cardiac surgery in children.
Our fund is closely aligned with the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo Pediatric Cardiology Unit. Childrens Hearts has volunteers that are actively involved in fundraising as well as the PLE Research efforts. Furthermore, the donations received are used directly for research.

Our Logo
The Children's Hearts Fund logo was designed and created by Mr. Robert Sievert, Buffalo, NY. His inspiration; his sister, born with a "hole in her heart".
The logo, if you look closely is an irregular shaped heart, with a layered shading of the color red, as you look into the shading of the heart you can see the concept of a "hole" in this heart. Irregular, unique and with each printing; different. He framed the heart in the color yellow, the color symbol of hope. And cradled the whole composition in blue; for security and comfort.
The art piece was designated for the Children's Hearts Fund logo in 1998.
